Obscured
the heat haze makes the air like soup
thick and muddled and wet
we try to form tendrils of connection
through it
but without getting too close,
for fear of it becoming even warmer
unbearable
my mind is heavy
as I think of obscured meaning
conversations with layers I can never penetrate
or perhaps
I see the hidden kernel of intent,
but the meat is what remains allusive
We speak through odd words and clumsy translation apps
Sudden flashes of shared meaning
only to doubt again later
It doesn’t matter
it’s too hot
and I am too slow
